Order limits, countdowns and “only N left”

Stop after N orders, show urgency in the widget, and what happens when the limit is hit.

4 min read

Every offer's last step has a Limits & urgency section.

  • Stop after this many orders: the offer pauses itself when the number of orders that used it reaches the limit. The Offers list shows “n/N orders”; when reached, a “Limit reached” chip and the Paused state, and an email alert if enabled in Settings › General › Alerts. Raise the limit and switch it back on to continue.
  • Live countdown: shows “Offer ends in 2d 04:12:33” in the widget, ticking every second until the end date set under Schedule. When it reaches zero the widget hides itself at once, because Shopify stops the discount at that moment.
  • “Only N left at this price”: the remaining orders under the limit, shown in the widget.

Timing details

Orders are counted from Shopify's orders/create webhook, a few seconds after checkout. Two customers finishing in the same second can both get the last slot. The storefront also hides an expired or exhausted offer on its own, before the next sync, and checkout stops applying it once the offer is paused.

Common problems

The countdown checkbox is disabled.

It needs an end date under Schedule. Choose “Schedule” and set Ends.

The limit was reached but the offer still shows.

The pause happens when the webhook arrives. If webhooks are delayed (Shopify retries for up to 48 hours) the widget hides it as soon as the metafield is updated; press Re-sync to force it.
