Test at checkout: what will the customer actually pay?
Run the real discount code on a sample cart before publishing, and read the result line by line.
On the last wizard step, “Test at checkout” lets you build a sample cart and see what checkout charges with this offer plus every other live offer. It runs the same discount Function code that Shopify executes at checkout, so the numbers match production up to Shopify's own rounding. Nothing is saved or written to the store.
- Pick products for the sample cart (up to 8) and set a quantity per line; choose the variant where a product has several.
- Choose the customer: guest, logged in with a first order, returning, or logged in with a tag (enter the tag). This drives audience rules; guests count as new customers.
- Press Run test. Each line shows the regular amount, the discount, what the customer pays, and which offer priced it. Below: subtotal, total discount, and what checkout charges.
What it checks for you
- Tier thresholds and “count variants together” on the actual quantities you typed.
- Priority: when another live offer already prices a product, this offer is skipped on that line, exactly as at checkout.
- Audience, exclusions, skip-on-sale and gift-card rules.
- Fixed bundles: when every component is in the cart in the required quantity, the note explains the merged bundle line and its price.
Common problems
The test shows no discount at all.
Read the notes under the table: the cart may not reach the first tier, the products may be outside the offer's scope, the customer type may not match the audience, or a product is excluded or on sale with “skip items on sale” enabled.
A different offer priced the product.
That offer sits higher in the Offers list. Move this offer up with the priority arrows, or narrow the other offer's products.
