Shopify Markets, currencies and taxes

How prices in the widget and at checkout follow the customer's market.

4 min read

  • The widget reads prices from the storefront in the customer's currency and formats them with your store's money format. Tax display follows the theme (Settings › General › Price display).
  • Percent discounts are currency-independent.
  • Amount-off and fixed-price values are entered in your store currency and converted with Shopify's presentment rate at checkout; the widget shows the converted value, rounded by Shopify.
  • Market-specific prices (price lists) are honoured: the discount is computed on the price the customer sees.

Explicit prices per market

Percent discounts work in every currency without setup. For fixed prices and fixed amounts (tier “3 for €60”, bundle price, “€10 off”), the default is a conversion from the store currency at the current rate, which gives odd numbers in other markets. Open “Prices per market” under the field and enter the amount per currency (the currencies of your enabled Shopify Markets are listed). The widget shows that amount to customers in that market and checkout charges exactly it; a currency you leave empty keeps the automatic conversion. Use Test at checkout on the last step to confirm the result.

Common problems

The cart bar amount for “Spend €100 more” looks off in another currency.

The cart bar converts with the storefront's current rate; small rounding differences to checkout are normal. Use percent tiers where exact thresholds matter.
